Moneymaking Online - Blogging |
09 May 2006 |
Finding new, simple and interesting ways to make money online is a current craze that has proliferated itself on the web. A relatively new and extremely popular method to make money online today is blogging. A blog, the shortened form of the word “weblog,” is like an online journal. It’s a personal, easy-to-use website where the author “posts” regular entries, with the newest posts displayed at the top of the home page.
Blogs are generally subject-based and attract a particular readership. Other features of a blog include archives and comments, which allow readers to give their feedback to a particular post, allowing the blog to become like an online written conversation. Many blogs are also divided into categories. For example, a blog on parenting may have subcategories such as pregnancy, babies and toddlers, family health, and education.
Before you can begin to think about how to make money online by blogging, you need to set up your blog. There are many blog services out there now, such as www.blogger.com, that allow you to simply sign up and register for your blog for free, and then take you through a very basic process (that doesn’t require any major HTML knowledge) to have your blog up and running.
Now it’s time to make money online. But how do you make money online using a blog? The most widely used method for generating income using a blog is through advertising. For quite awhile, Google AdSense, an advertising program run by Google, was by far the most common way to make money online using a blog. Bloggers can make money online this way by registering for the program and enabling ads on their site. Google AdSense places ads that are relevant to your content, so when someone reading your blog clicks on an ad that they find interesting, you make money. Google AdSense is still popular and considered very effective, but it’s no longer the only option. Other advertising programs include BlogAds, Chitika’s eMiniMalls, Text Link Ads, Clicksor, Kanoodle, Bidvertiser and many more.
However, using advertising programs is only one method used to make money online writing in blogs. Other ideas and options increasing in popularity include affiliate programs, such as Clickbank, Commission Junction, Amazon and Linkshare, RSS advertising, sponsorships, donations, merchandising, and blog network opportunities. Pro bloggers generally advise new bloggers to use more than one source of revenue potential to increase their chances to make money online and avoid putting all their eggs in one basket.
Many eager new bloggers want to know exactly how much money they can make. Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed income in blogging. It varies, depending on many different factors, such as how well you write, how often you write, how many forms of revenue programs you are enrolled in, and how much traffic you can drive to your site. While blogging generally doesn’t pay per post or by the hour (although some people do hire bloggers to blog for them), the potential to really make money online—and eventually a significant amount—is there. Newbies can expect to make about $10 a month in the beginning, but seasoned pros are making $1,000, even $10,000 a month. It just takes time, patience and dedication to your blog and subject. The longer you work at it, the more potential for success.
There are many suggestions for improving your success at blogging to make money online. One tip to help you make money online is to post regularly on your blog, and to write as often as you can. Posting daily is usually recommended, but many bloggers who don’t have the time for that aim for three to four times weekly.
Further, it’s important to write good, useful content—posts that are written well, that are not too long or too short (200-500 words is considered a good length), and posts that stick to your chosen subject. You need to be able to attract a readership with good content—more reader
