1001 Ideas: Teach driving | 10 December 2007 |
There are two ways you can approach this. Cater to teens or cater to immigrants. If you cater to teens, your instruction will have to be accredited through the school and approved by the DMV. If you teach immigrants or people who simply can't pass the written or driving part of the test, you can charge more but offer a guarantee that they pass or don't pay.
This way, you can use your own car and for some people, you can charge a lot. Driving for kids is all tied up with special insurance, grades and affiliations. It's a harder route but one that will work. If you use your own car, keep it clean and serviceable and don't forget to get extra insurance.
You can charge up to $100 a day for the service. If you are giving a pass/pay option, get the full amount up front plus an amount for fuel. Your drivers
will pay for the fuel. After they pass the test, you can deposit the check.
If they want to pay cash, make sure you are the one holding the cash and make sure you have a signed contract with impartial witnesses.
